DIGITAL PRODUCTS
CLAIM #3
Students at Open World Learning Community leverage technology to publish remarkably high quality, professional products that are available to wide-ranging audiences.
In a 1:1 technological device setting, much of the emphasis in education is placed on digital literacy. How do we equip our students to navigate the torrent of information? How do we instruct our students to manage the impulse to abuse technology? How do we keep students safe online?
This focus on the deficits of technology often obfuscate the many benefits. In a school setting some of the most obvious affordances of technology access are wide audiences for student work and creation tools that make projects look polished and professional.
At Open World Learning Community, the 1:1 iPads assigned to each student open up worlds of opportunities for students and work to close gaps in access across economic groups. In addition, they allow endless possibilities for student products that transcend basic papers and class presentations.
