A Better World
CLAIM #3
This culture of compassion and service at Open World Learning Community allows students to partner with the community, engage students in volunteer opportunities, and contribute to a better world.
One particular habit of work and learning, that is stewardship, is emphasized at Open World Learning Community. Through Crew it is taught the importance of being a steward and showing care, not only for our classrooms and campus, but for the world at large.
This value is so important that students at OWL are required to log at least 300 hours of school and community service prior to graduation. Some structures for service are built into the school's program. Students can volunteer time to assist a teacher or tutor students, field work often includes a service component, and Crews take on meaningful community service projects, including an entire day each year that every Crew at OWL participates in a day of service.
